Worked example
“Hello” encodes to SGVsbG8= and decoding restores the original text. Confirm that the receiving system also uses UTF-8.
Understanding settings and results
- Encoding increases size by about one third.
- A trailing = is padding. Some protocols omit it, but not all implementations accept that.
Scope and limitations
- Anyone can decode Base64; it cannot protect passwords or keys.
- This page is primarily for text and is not suitable for very large binary files.
Troubleshooting
- Garbled Unicode text usually indicates a character-set mismatch.
- For invalid characters or length, remove spaces and line breaks and check padding.
Privacy and processing
Encoding and decoding run entirely in the browser.
