Worked example
The GB and MB labels here use base 1024: 1 GB = 1024 MB = 1073741824 B. Strict binary notation is GiB and MiB. Drive packaging often uses decimal units, where 1 GB = 1000000000 B; do not mix these conventions.
Understanding settings and results
- This tool currently offers only base 1024, with no decimal toggle.
- Byte and bit are different; network bandwidth commonly uses bit/s.
Scope and limitations
- Operating systems and manufacturers may use 1024 and 1000 conventions respectively.
- Storage capacity does not directly equal network transfer speed.
Troubleshooting
- Displayed capacity below a drive label often comes from decimal versus binary units.
- Before converting bandwidth, check whether the unit is B or b.
