PDF File Inspection

Check page counts, paper sizes, orientation and text layers to decide whether to compress, run OCR or organize pages.

Inspect the file before choosing a process

Files are uploaded to the server. Maximum 200 pages and 150 MB; password-protected files are reported as locked only. Try an example first.

Download the original example

Expected: two A4 pages. Page 1 has a text layer; page 2 contains only an image. Run inspection and compare the report.

Worked example

Load the two-page mixed example and inspect it: page 1 contains 940 non-whitespace text characters; page 2 contains only one image. Both are A4. Extracting text from page 2 will usually require OCR.

Understanding settings and results

  • Reports the displayed dimensions, rotation and image-object count for each page.
  • A text layer means text can be extracted; it does not verify recognition accuracy.

Scope and limitations

  • Up to 200 pages and 150MB. Password-protected files are reported as locked.
  • This is not a virus scan, signature check or verification of content authenticity.

Troubleshooting

  • Visible text inside an image with no text layer usually requires OCR.
  • For a custom paper size, check the displayed dimensions for cropping or nonstandard paper.

Privacy and processing

Files are uploaded to the server for temporary processing. Inspection produces no download and does not return extracted body text to the page.
