First determine whether the PDF contains scanned images or selectable text. Re-encoding images may help scans; text-only or already compressed files may shrink very little.
Check file requirements, choose a process, then verify the actual result.

Understand the cause before processing. Each route includes public examples and ways to verify the result.
Read the real format, size and dimensions, then compare them with platform requirements.

Try a sample without personal information before processing your own files. These workflows provide original files, settings and actual outputs to download and compare.
First determine whether the PDF contains scanned images or selectable text. Re-encoding images may help scans; text-only or already compressed files may shrink very little.
Splitting whole pages suits chapters; splitting along lines separates regions within a page. Check reading order with the four-quadrant example, and avoid cutting through text.
First reduce dimensions to suit the intended use, then choose a format. Try JPEG for photos. Keep a PNG for comparison when transparency or sharp small text matters.
| Task | Processing location | Before you begin |
|---|---|---|
| Image compression and stitching; JSON, codecs, unit conversion and more | In your browser | Large inputs still use device memory. You manage copied and downloaded content. |
| PDF, images to PDF, audio and video | On our server | Files must be uploaded. Results are stored temporarily, so download them promptly. |
| PDF OCR | Our server and a third-party recognition service | Page images are sent to a third party. Review the recognized text and layout manually. |
Core tools are free and require no registration. Resource-intensive features such as media conversion have daily limits; see the tool page for details.
Try reproducing the issue with the supplied sample. Record the tool URL, settings, browser and error message, then submit them through Contact and feedback. Do not attach sensitive original files that have not been sanitized.
