PDF smaller after splitting? Check page dimensions before print scaling
Dividing an A4 page into four produces pages about 105×148.5 millimeters each. Use the four-region example to distinguish splitting, enlargement and print layout.

Open PDF line splittingSplitting preserves the selected region dimensions. Filling A4 would theoretically need 200% scaling; actual printing is affected by margins.
Layout illustration, not a physical-size display.Reproduce one A4 page becoming four pages
Download the one-page four-region original and select it in line splitting. Add one horizontal line at 50% and one vertical line at 50%, or use a 2×2 grid, then export PDF.
The original is 210×297 millimeters. The output has four pages ordered upper-left A, upper-right B, lower-left C and lower-right D. Each is about 105×148.5 millimeters. Use PDF inspection to check every page’s dimensions and orientation.
Distinguish PDF page dimensions from printer paper
Splitting produces four small pages; it does not automatically turn each region into A4. A reader’s “Fit to window” makes different page sizes appear similarly large, so screen size does not tell you the paper size.
At “Actual size / 100%” on A4 paper, a small page usually occupies only part of the sheet, with placement depending on reader settings. “Fit to paper” scales to the printable area. Printer margins affect the final scale.
Enlarging 105×148.5 millimeters to 210×297 millimeters theoretically requires 200% for both width and height. This is a geometry calculation, not a physical print test. Enlarging a scan does not automatically add pixels and may make small text appear blurrier.
Choose original dimensions or a new layout to meet delivery requirements
If the recipient requires original dimensions, keep the split pages and confirm the scale in print preview. To fill A4 with one region, first confirm enlargement is permitted, then check the preview and print a test page.
Putting several receipts on one sheet is multiple-page printing, the reverse of cutting one page into several. In a reader that supports it, select pages per sheet and verify order and orientation. Menu names vary by application.
This site’s PDF merge includes optional smart pairing. Use original-layout merging for materials that require precise page-layout preservation, and inspect each page before delivery rather than only the total page count.
What else to check before and after splitting
Check whether lines cross text, stamps or QR codes, and whether differently oriented pages need separate split positions. Equally sized sample regions do not mean real receipts are evenly laid out.
Cropping or line splitting is not secure redaction; it does not establish that hidden information has been fully removed. Enlarged printing also cannot restore lost detail in blurry scans.
